How Much Does Travelling around Turkey Really Cost?

With todays current exchange rate your looking at $1Aud = ₺2.15 (Turkish Lira)

The biggest question often asked by travellers making there way to Turkey, is do I take Turkish lira or just use Euros?

Well the correct answer is, they take both! However Turkish lira is the legal currency, and when you visit ATMs you will most likely get Turkish lira.

You can bring Euros if you cant find an exchange that will give you lira and use it up when you can, but its best to always use the local currency, otherwise you may end up paying a lot more for your purchases because the Euro is a much stronger currency.

So for a general idea you have the following (Using Turkish Lira):

₺5 = 2.30 Aud

₺25 = 11.60 Aud

₺45 = 20.90 Aud

With this knowledge lets do a rough price break down so you can see what you’re going to be spending your money on here in Turkey!

One night accommodation at 1-3 star hotel – ₺100

One night in a 6-person dorm – ₺10-25

Local beer – ₺3-7

Local Kebab – ₺5

Car hire for a day- ₺20

Hot air balloon ride – ₺150-200

‘Fake’ watch – ₺20-50

Hand made medium sized silk rug – ₺250

‘Fake’ handbag – ₺30-50
